Taking Care of Your Dog's Teeth

Taking care of your dog's teeth is just one of the four main thing to consider when it come to grooming your dog. This can be one of the easiest one to take care of though! There are a lot of ways to take care of your dog's teeth, but the first thing and base for it all is feeding them right. After that, like everything else, you just have to make sure you are paying attention to everything that is going on with your dog's mouth.

Like when they are puppies, they will 'teethe' just like babies do. They will chew on things and bleed all over their toys, hopefully, and even lose or swallow teeth! If your paying attention, and lucky enough, you can even get a hold of few of their baby teeth; stuck in toys, sticks or even loose in their mouth! If you find one of these all you have to do is wiggle it (just a little of course) just like your dad used to and pop it out for them! Encourage this teethe-ing behavior though, don't stop them because they're bleeding. It's not hurting them, just as a baby enjoys a nice frozen chew-toy, dogs enjoy a good stick/rope/stuffed animal... and besides they need to lose those teeth so they don't get in the way of proper growth of more mature teeth.

As they grow you won't have to go through that again, but you will have to check out their mouth every now and again though. You should check your dog's teeth every once and a while just to make sure they aren't too dirty, but it's very easy to keep them clean. Rope toys are great for dog's teeth because it acts as floss and really scrubs things. Another good thing is those Greenie things, the doggie toothbrush/treat thats green. Dogs love them, they freshen their breath and help clean the teeth.

  2. I didn't realize that dogs lose teeth just like humans do! I remember my puppy teething and that seemed normal to me, but when I noticed he had lost a tooth, I was a little bit shocked! Now that I know it is a normal process, it makes complete sense. http://www.georgetownveterinaryhospital.com/surg_dental.htm
